Measuring an Existing Ring's Diameter
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- A ring that fits the correct finger perfectly.
- A ruler or caliper with millimeter (mm) markings.
- A ring size chart that includes diameter measurements. (Shown above)
STEPS
- Place the ring on a flat surface.
- Measure the internal diameter (straight across the inside middle) in millimeters.
- Match this diameter measurement to the corresponding size on your ring size chart.
- Measure at the End of the Day: Fingers tend to be slightly larger later in the day and when warm. Avoid measuring when hands are cold (fingers shrink).
- Measure the Correct Finger: Ensure you measure the exact finger the ring will be worn on. Fingers on your dominant hand are often slightly larger.
- Measure Multiple Times: Measure 3-4 times on different occasions to account for fluctuations and ensure consistency.
- Account for Knuckle Size: If your knuckle is significantly larger than the base of your finger, ensure the ring size chosen can slide over the knuckle. You might need a size slightly larger than the base measurement suggests.
- Consider Band Width: Wider bands (e.g., >4mm) generally fit tighter. You may need to size up (often by ΒΌ to Β½ size) compared to a narrow band. Thinner bands (<1.5mm) might feel looser. (Link band width mentions examples or filters in your collections if possible.)
- Body Temperature & Conditions: Avoid measuring immediately after exercise, consuming lots of salt/alcohol, during illness, or right after flying, as these can cause temporary swelling. Aim for when your body temperature is normal and stable.
Women: Average US ring size is 3 to 9. Most common sizes purchased are 5 to 7. Size 6 is often considered the most popular average.
Men: Average US ring size is 6 to 13. Most common sizes purchased are 8 to 10.5. Size 9 is often the most popular average.
